As we close out the first quarter of 2026 Cyber Chapter Community Service Initiative, we’re proud to pause and reflect on the meaningful ways our members supported animal care efforts in their local communities.
One of the strengths of our Cyber Chapter is our geographic diversity. While we may not serve side by side in one location, we are united by a shared commitment to giving back. This initiative was designed to allow members to make a local impact while contributing to a collective, chapter wide mission through a quarterly focus area.
For the first quarter of 2026, our focus was animal care, a cause that touches every community. Members supported animal shelters, rescues, and animal focused organizations in ways that worked for them: volunteering time, donating supplies, fostering animals, supporting equine facilities, or assisting with daily care needs.
This flexibility is intentional. It ensures participation is accessible while still allowing us to align around a shared purpose.
Animal care organizations across the United States face increasing capacity challenges. In 2025, an estimated 5.8 million dogs and cats entered shelters and rescues nationwide, while only 4.2 million were adopted, leaving many facilities consistently over capacity. Animals are also staying in shelters longer, particularly dogs, which places additional strain on staff, budgets, and available space, according to ASPCA.org.
Community support plays a critical role in addressing these pressures. HumaneCNY states volunteer involvement allows shelters to increase the number of animals they can care for, improve adoption readiness through socialization and enrichment, and redirect limited resources toward veterinary care and essential services. Even donation-based efforts, such as food and supply drives, directly reduce operating costs and free up funds for medical treatment.
In addition to supporting shelters and animal care organizations, several Cyber Chapter members opened their homes and hearts by fostering or adopting animals of their own. These deeply personal acts of service provide immediate relief to overcrowded shelters while giving animals the time, stability, and care they need to thrive. Whether welcoming a temporary foster or committing to a forever home, these members made a direct and lasting impact. Demonstrating that community service can be both meaningful and life‑changing, for animals and people alike.
As we transition into second quarter, we carry forward the momentum built through our animal care focus. Each quarter brings a new opportunity to align our efforts, spotlight different community needs, and strengthen the collective impact of our chapter, no matter the miles between us. Our second quarter focus is mental health.
This is a critical focus where community support can make a lasting difference. We’re excited to continue aligning our efforts around a shared mission and invite members to engage in ways that support mental well‑being at both the local and collective level.
